Englewood EAB Grant Program Helps Residents Protect Ash Trees
Englewood homeowners now have a new opportunity to help protect their ash trees from emerald ash borer, one of the most destructive tree pests in the United States.
The City of Englewood’s EAB Grant Program helps eligible residents cover part of the cost for ash tree treatment or removal. The program is designed to take action before emerald ash borer becomes a larger problem in Englewood by supporting the removal of ash trees in poor condition and chemical treatment for healthy ash trees worth preserving.

What the EAB Grant Program Covers
The program applies to the removal and/or chemical treatment of ash trees. According to the City of Englewood, eligible chemical treatments must use trunk injection, soil injection, soil drench, or basal bark drench products and methods labeled for emerald ash borer control.
The grant covers 25% of the total cost, up to a maximum of $500, for eligible ash tree removal or chemical treatment. Applications must be approved before any work takes place.
All work must be completed by a tree service licensed by the City of Englewood, and chemical treatments must be performed by applicators licensed by the State of Colorado. Splintered Forest LLC is listed on the City of Englewood’s 2025 arborist license list.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for the grant, the ash tree must be located within the City of Englewood. The applicant must own both the tree and the property where the tree is located. Commercial, industrial, and high-density residential properties are not eligible, and the city allows one application per address per calendar year.
Why Englewood Residents Should Act Now
Emerald ash borer damages ash trees from the inside out. The larvae feed beneath the bark, disrupting the tree’s ability to move water and nutrients. Infested trees often decline over a period of two to four years.
Common signs of emerald ash borer include thinning or leaf loss near the top of the tree, vertical bark splits, S-shaped galleries beneath the bark, D-shaped exit holes, trunk sprouts, and increased woodpecker activity.
For healthy, high-value ash trees, proactive treatment can be a strong option. Splintered Forest recommends trunk injections because they offer a long residual effect and can protect ash trees for up to two years when properly applied.
How to Apply for the Englewood EAB Grant
Englewood residents should start by deciding whether they want to treat or remove the ash tree on their property. From there, the city directs homeowners to download the EAB grant application or pick up a copy at the Englewood Civic Center.
Before submitting the application, homeowners need to contact a City of Englewood licensed tree service and obtain an itemized quote for the treatment or removal work. The completed application and quote can then be submitted to the City of Englewood for review.
